Blaugust 12A, 2015: Let's Get Quizzical

So! I missed a couple of days! Tut tut indeed. But I have some time today, and will endeavour to make them up. Thus I am planning three items today, of which this shall be the first. So without further ado, A WEDNESDAY QUIZ.

---

This one is fairly nerdy, with a lot of entertainment trivia.

As usual, please post your answers in the comments so I can feel better about how badly I do at your quizzes. No peeking at the internet for hints! I'll post the answers tomorrow most likely.

1) What should your motto be according to Richard IV of England, Scotland and Ireland?

2) Errol Flynn played the titular character in this 1935 swashbuckling adventure, co-starring Olivia de Havilland.

3) What sort of radiation has a wavelength from about 800 nm to 1 mm, and is emitted particularly by heated objects?

4) What was the name of the only supporting feature to ever attack the main film?

5) Which spice is made from the rhizome of Zingiber officinale?

6) In the film 'Clue', which character was portrayed by Lesley Ann Warren?

7) What was the name of the first novel to feature John H. Watson?

8) Who was also known as l'Éminence rouge?

9) Who is the host of the demon Etrigan?

10) What is the common name of Vulpes vulpes?

  1. All right, I'll dive in filled with ignorance and enthusiasm!

    1) Is obviously a Blackadder joke, but it's been ages since I've seen the first series and I really can't recall. I'd assume it's something suitably bombastic for everyone's favourite accidental monarch.

    2) Let's go with Captain Blood.

    3) Infrared.

    4) The Crimson Permanent Assurance!

    5) Given the theme there are many options! Paprika, turmeric, saffron, probably more! I'll go with paprika, but who knows?

    6) I'll go for Miss Scarlet. Because, y'know, theme.

    7) A Study In Red? With my luck it'll turn out to be some flowery synonym like Scarlet or Crimson or Carmine. :/

    8) Everybody's favourite character-assassinated historical saviour of France and accidental champion of Protestantism in the Thirty Years War, Cardinal Richelieu!

    9) Nope, I got nothing here.

    10) The Red Fox, of course.

  2. Now I show how badly I am at these sort of quizzes.

    1) Said in perfect BRIAN BLESSED tone: "LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS YOU LOVE THY SELF, UNLESS HE'S TURKISH IN WHICH CASE KILL THE BASTARD!"

    2) It could be Robin Hood for all I know but then there was also The Seahawk but I think that came later.

Fun Fact: The composer of the score for The Seahawk lined up the music perfectly that when his name appeared in the credits there was an amazing fanfare. Made the directors name in the credits feel tame in comparison.

Let's just go with Robin Hood and expect to be wrong knowing that it's in colour and the first colour movie was the Wizard of which I know for a fact was in 1939.

    3) Really don't know anything about radiation. Ultra Violet?

    4) I believe it was the Crimson Permanent Assurance who attacked Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

    5) I hate Latin plant names. The spice could be Scary, Sporty, Baby, Posh or Ginger for all I know.

    6) Never saw the film but I do know the best ending is, "Now if you excuse me I wish to go home and have sex with my wife!" Let's just go with Mrs Peacock as a wild guess.

    7) If it was the first Sherlock Holmes book then it was A Study in Scarlet. Half of which is about Mormon pilgrimage in Utah that nobody cared about. I know I skipped it. If it is in fact not a Sherlock Holmes book then congratulations. You got me.

    8) I'm really showing how bad I'm going at this quiz. Show's what I know about general trivia. If however you had asked me to make a risotto, then you would be impressed.

    9) Don't really know who or what the demon Etrigan even is. But if you'd asked where the Melbourne Demons are on the ladder right now I could tell you they are in 14th.

    10) The Red Fox! I know one!
